Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness program designed to ensure that all students, especially those who have been historically underserved and are academically in the middle, are prepared for success. The mission of AVID is to support students in succeeding in rigorous coursework, completing a strong college preparatory pathway, engaging in mainstream school activities, and becoming educated, responsible participants and leaders in a democratic society.

Mr. McGhee provides intentional support to students by helping them develop academic confidence and socialized intelligence while maintaining a strong focus on rigor. Using the WICOR framework, writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading, students strengthen their study skills, goal setting, organization, and time management. As a result, students succeed in Honors, UT Austin OnRamps, TCC Dual Credit, and AP courses and are prepared to apply to and enroll in four year colleges.

AVID Student Recruitment

AVID student recruitment focuses on students in the academic middle who demonstrate the desire and determination to succeed in a four year college or university. Students are selected based on meeting one or more of the following criteria, first in their family to attend college, historically underserved in four year college settings, low income, or special circumstances. Participation in the AVID program is a commitment, and both students and staff choose to be actively involved.
